Dr. E. Dale Abel is the Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine and Director of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center at the Carver College of Medicine of the University of Iowa where he holds the John B. Stokes III Chair in Diabetes Research and the François M. Abboud Chair in Internal Medicine. Dr. Abel earned an MBBS with Distinction from the University of the West Indies and a D.Phil. in Physiology from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. He completed Internal Medicine Residency and Chief Residency at Northwestern University and Endocrinology fellowship at Harvard Medical School—Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Prior to moving to the University of Iowa in 2013, Dr. Abel was Chief of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Utah, where he held the H.A. and Edna Benning Presidential Endowed Chair in Medicine. Dr. Abel has been the recipient of numerous awards for scholarship and mentorship, including the Van Meter Award of the American Thyroid Association (2001), an Established Investigator Award from the American Heart Association (2003), Election to the American Society for Clinical Investigation (2004), Election to the American Association of Physicians (2011), Distinguished Mentor Awards from the University of Utah (2011) and the University of Iowa (2017), the Gerald D. Aurbach Award for Research excellence from the Endocrine Society (2012), election to the National Academy of Medicine (2015) and appointment to the Advisory Council of the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (2016). He is a world-renowned speaker and recipient of many named lectureships. His research program, focused on cardiovascular complications of obesity and insulin resistance has been continually funded by the National Institutes of Health for more than 20 years. Dr. E. Dale Abel is the President-Elect of the Endocrine Society.

Dr. Jonathan Q. Purnell, MD is Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology and the Knight Cardiovascular Institute, Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, Oregon, US. He has also worked as an Associate Director at Bob and Charlee Moore Institute for Nutrition & Wellness, Portland, Oregon, US. Dr. Purnell was educated from Oregon Health & Science University, Portland. He underwent residency in Internal Medicine from University of Vermont, Burlington, VT and fellowship in Endocrinology from University of Washington, Seattle, WA. Dr. Purnell is a board certified Endocrinologist and also sees patients with obesity, diabetes, and lipid disorders at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland.

His work as a physician scientist focuses on understanding the causes and consequences of obesity,metabolic syndrome, dyslipidemia, and diabetes in humans. His recent work includes using advanced imaging techniques to understand how the brain responds to changes in diet and weight regulatory hormones and metabolic studies of pregnant women to learn more about how maternal nutrition, obesity, and diabetes affects the health of the placenta and baby.

Dr. Sethu Reddy is Professor and Chair of Medicine at Central Michigan University College of Medicine. He has previously been Chief of Adult Diabetes at Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard, in Boston and Chairman of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Reddy received his medical degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland as well as his MBA from Cleveland State University. After completing an Internal Medicine Residency at Memorial University of Newfoundland, he went on to complete a Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism Fellowship at the University of Toronto and a Research Fellowship in Cellular and Molecular Physiology at Joslin.

He has written and co-authored more than 140 articles, abstracts and book chapters on various aspects of endocrinology, including the Cleveland Clinic Guide to Diabetes. Dr. Reddy was an associate editor of the Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine. He is now an Associate Editor for Clinical Diabetes and Endocrinology. Dr. Reddy has been elected twice to the National Board of Directors of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) and has been actively involved in clinically relevant projects with the AACE since 1996.

Throughout his career, Dr. Reddy has received many honors, such as the Florence Nightingale Award by the Cleveland Clinic for Physician Collaboration and the distinction of Mastership in the American College of Endocrinology in 2007.

Dr. Young is the Tyson Family Endocrinology Clinical Professor and Professor of Medicine in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., USA. He is the recipient of multiple education awards and is a past president of the Endocrine Society and past chair of the Division of Endocrinology at Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Young’s clinical research focuses on primary aldosteronism and pheochromocytoma. He has published more than 300 articles on endocrine hypertension and adrenal and pituitary disorders. He has delivered more than 650 presentations at national and international meetings and he has been an invited visiting professor for more than 150 medical institutions.

Dr. Angela M. Leung is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and an endocrinologist at both UCLA and the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System.

After pursuing her undergraduate studies at Occidental College, Dr. Leung completed her internal medicine residency and endocrinology fellowship training at Boston University School of Medicine. She also studied at the Boston University School of Public Health and obtained a master's degree in Epidemiology.

Dr. Leung has particular clinical and research interests in thyroid disorders, and she also sees patients regarding parathyroid and adrenal disorders. She has published widely and lectures frequently on thyroid disease, including hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, and thyroid disease during pregnancy.

Ann E. Kearns, M.D., Ph.D. is an endocrinologist specializing in metabolic bone and calcium disorders.

Her clinical focus includes: Osteoporosis and secondary fracture prevention, Primary hyperparathyroidism Other disorders of calcium and mineral metabolism

Her research interests are the relationship between osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease and the potential role of estrogen in the development of both diseases. She is involved in the KEEPS trial, which is an trial of hormone replacement early after the menopause and examines surrogate cardiovascular markers including coronary artery calcification, carotid intimal thickness, and vascular reactivity, in women randomized to placebo, oral, or transdermal therapies. Her study examines detailed bone density and biochemical markers of bone turnover in these women, with the goal of determining how CV disease and bone loss are affected by estrogen versus aging.

In addition Dr. Kearns is interested in the optimal evaluation and treatment of patients following a hip fracture. This project involves Olmsted county population data to determine the risks for a second hip fracture and help identify who best benefits from treatment after a hip fracture.

Richard S. Legro is Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Public Health Sciences at Penn State University College of Medicine in Hershey, PA, USA. His research and clinical practice are primarily focused on polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)-diagnosis, treatment, and genetic/environmental causes as well as on improving infertility diagnosis and treatment. He has led multiple multi-center trials, has been the principal investigator on a number of National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants and published over 200 peer-reviewed articles in medical journals and multiple books in the field of reproductive endocrinology. He is an elected member of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine and the Secretary-Treasurer Elect of the Endocrine Society. He is an Associate Editor for Fertility and Sterility and the Co-Editor in Chief of Seminars in Reproductive Medicine.

Dr. Bhasin is an internationally recognized reproductive endocrinologist with expertise in function promoting anabolic therapies, androgen biology and clinical trials of testosterone. After obtaining his medical education at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India, Dr. Bhasin received his residency training at Northwestern University Medical School and fellowship training in Endocrinology and Nutrition at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California

He is Professor of Medicine and Director of the Research Program in Men's Health: Aging and Metabolism and of the Boston Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He has been in practice for more than 20 years. He currently serves as the Chair of the Endocrine Society's Clinical Guidelines Subcommittee and chaired the Endocrine Society's Expert Panel for the development of Guidelines for Testosterone Therapy.

Dr. Leder received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Endocrine Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he has remained ever since. His current position is Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Over the past two decades, Dr. Leder has been both an active clinician (serving as the Director of Endocrine Associates, a 16-physician practice focusing on metabolic bone disease) and clinical investigator.
